Dinner Out

For Labor Day weekend we visited the grandparents in Rockwall and went out to eat Saturday night. We celebrated Bryce's 11th birthday (early) and my in-laws anniversary....I think their 58th anniversary.

We went to The Old Warsaw in Dallas and let me tell you...it was FABULOUS! Great atmosphere...great service and GREAT FOOD!! http://www.oldwarsaw.com/site/

Bryce had a filet with sauteed mushrooms and French fries. Dave had lamb chops with a medley of veggies and cheesy potatoes. Wayne, my FIL, had beef stroganoff (over rice and topped with lobster!). Joyce, my MIL, had salmon over fettucine. Ruby, Dave's aunt, had a filet stuffed with crab and lobster with mashed potatoes. After everyone discussing the four course menu being a great one to choose from I was the only one who ordered off of it! For a starter I had asparagus soup (very good!). Appetizer (instead of salad) was smoked salmon (love smoked salmon!). My entre was an organic chicken breast with porcini mushrooms, truffles and lobster (way so yummy!) And my dessert was a chocolate souffle (heaven!!). Dave and Wayne split cherries jubilee...they just love those flaming desserts. :-)

Anyway...it was a lot of fun and I highly recommend The Old Warsaw for fine French Dining.

5th Grade Reading

I decided to tell you what my son has been reading lately.

The current book we are reading we borrowed from his friend Luke - 39 Clues: The Sword Thief by Peter Lerangis. This series of now 10 books has been written by a different author and are really interesting.

Another book he hasn't started yet he "checked out" from his English teacher - It is called Schooled by Gordon Korman. It sounds really good...I'll have to read it myself.

And one last one - Bryce said they are going to start reading a book in class called The Cay by Theodore Taylor.

What to blog...

So...I decided to write a blog...now I need to figure out what to blog about! I decided to write about the happenings of the Fisher Family...my family. I know...you might be saying...uh...so what! That's fine...you don't have to read it...but I thought I'd write about just anything and everything I thought might be interesting.

A little bit about me first. I am a full-time working mom. I've been married to my sweet husband for 14 years...and we have a very sweet ALMOST 11 year old son. I work at a huge Baptist church in Tyler, Texas...and have worked there for 11 years. My job can be a little stressful at times but I totally enjoy who I work for, my co-workers and the atmosphere.

I do a lot of volunteer work...mostly being involved in my son's life. I volunteer for Kidz Praise (Children's Choir) on Wednesday nights at our church. I can't believe this is the 7th year I've been volunteering for Children's Choir! Since Bryce is in 5th Grade this will be his last year for Kidz Praise...and my last year as a Kidz Praise volunteer! Next year he will move on to Middle School Choir and they meet Sunday evenings.

I also help out with the Parent Association (PA) at my son's school. People ask me if I ever get tired of helping out from year to year but I don't...I LOVE it! Plus...since I've only got one child...I only have one chance to help otu. This year I am the PA Secretary...taking minutes and sending email reminders. I wasn't sure about taking minutes but it wasn't that bad. I am also a Grade Level Representative (GLR) for 5th Grade...which basically means I send out reminders about class parties, etc.

I'll leave with this parting picture...dinner tonight! Being a working mom means I'm all about quick and easy dinners...and I LOVE the grill! So tonight's dinner is grilled chicken (marinated in Good Seasons Garlic & Herb dressing), my version of potato sald (cooked potato, mayo, grainy mustard and garlic powder) and a green salad. Quick and easy in both prep and clean-up!
